About Chip

Chip Dunn, inventor and founder of SewerAlarm, has been in the residential construction and development business for over 30 years. His company has constructed homes, additions and remodeled many others.

Over his career, he has seen many homes with waste lines and/or septic systems that are aging, in poor condition or are failing. This can often set up conditions in which blockages can occur that may cause sewage in the waste line to back up into a home.

He experienced sewer line backups in his own home, an older home, that is connected to the municipal sewer system. Like many homes, tree roots found their way into his sewer line between sections of the clay pipeline creating a blockage. Eventually sewage backed up into his home. He and his family never knew when an unwanted backup of sewage would enter his home.

To find a solution, he asked professionals in the business from plumbers to septic engineers to plumbing supply companies to recommend a home sewer line alarm that could alert him when there was an impending backup. No one knew of such a warning device. That’s when Chip decided to develop, patent, manufacture and bring his own sewer alarm device to market.

With his SewerAlarm Backup Detection Device now installed in his home, he and his family rest easy knowing they will be alerted when a backup condition is present before it overflows into his home.
